Polymeric concrete or resin concrete consists of a polymeric binder that may be thermoplastic but is often more of a thermostable polymer and is a discrete mineral filler. Polymer concrete has higher strength, higher chemical resistance, lower water absorption and higher frost resistance than common Portland cement concrete.
The most important factors of polymer use in concrete:
- low weight
- Ability to create beautiful architecture
- Resistance to weather conditions
- Anti-corrosion properties
- Structures in which metal should not be used.
Polymer concrete properties:
- Good resistance to chemical attack and other corrosives
- Low water absorption
- Good resistance to abrasion, stability and resistance to frost-thawing
- Also the high strength of polymer concrete compared to Portland cement concrete allows us to use up to 50% less material. These conditions make polymer concrete at a competitive level with Portland cement concrete for special applications.
